Overview[]

Alexi Shostakov was a test pilot for the Soviet Union and received national acclaim for his expertise and skill. While training at the KGB Red Room Academy, he met and fell in love with a ballerina/gymnist named Natasha Romanoff. The two were soon married, but wedded bliss was a short-lived luxury for the Shostakovs. The Soviets had their eyes on Alexi and had bigger plans for him. They faked Alexi's death and the official record stated that he died in an explosion while testing out a new type of rocket. In truth, the Soviets wanted him missions of greater import. They wanted to create their own State hero in much the same way that the United States had Captain America. After putting him through an intensive training program, Alexi Shostakov became the costumed Soviet hero known as Red Guardian.
