Biography[]
Albert Blume was a mental patient who had escaped from Arkham Asylum. He went to an apartment complex near Robinson Park off Brigham Circle, where he took several children hostage. Police commissioner Gillian B. Loeb had sent in his top riot control officer Branden to intervene. When Lieutenant James Gordon learned of this, he feared that Branden's "gestapo tactics" would only make a bad situation worse.
Arriving at the scene, Gordon made himself visible to Blume and showed that he was putting down his revolver. Gordon ascended the steps to the floor where Blume had been keeping the children hostage. Blume was in the midst of severe paranoia and shouting gibberish. Gordon kept him calm enough to get in close, then knocked him out with a blow to the jaw.
The capture of Albert Blume and the safe recovery of the children made Gordon a hero in the eyes of the media.
