Points of Interest[]
- Birmingham
- Birmingham is an American city located in the U.S. state of Alabama. It is the second largest city in the state and is the county seat of Jefferson County and includes part of Shelby County. Birmingham was founded in 1871, during the post-Civil War Reconstruction period, through the merger of three pre-existing farm towns, notably, former Elyton. It grew from there, annexing many more of its smaller neighbors, into an industrial and railroad transportation center with a focus on mining, the iron and steel industry, and railroading. Birmingham was named for Birmingham, England, UK; one of that nation's major industrial cities.
- Montgomery
- Montgomery is a city in the U.S. State of Alabama. It is the state capital and the county seat of Montgomery County. In the Marvel Universe, Montgomery was one of many U.S. cities gripped in severe paranoia when a Skrull, posing as Captain America, warned the populace that one out of every ten people was in fact a shape-shifting Skrull. A mother from Montgomery, who never understood her teenage son's hairstyle or fashion sense attacked him with a skillet, suspecting him of actually being a Skrull. [1]
- Selma
- Selma is a city in and the county seat of Dallas County, in the Black Belt region of south central Alabama and extending to the west. Selma was a trading center and market town during the antebellum years of King Cotton in the South. It was also an important armaments-manufacturing and iron shipbuilding center for the Confederacy during the Civil War, surrounded by miles of earthen fortifications. The Confederate forces were defeated during the Battle of Selma, in the final full month of the war. In modern times, the city is best known for the 1960s civil rights movement and the Selma to Montgomery marches, beginning with "Bloody Sunday" in 1965 and ending with 25,000 people entering Montgomery at the end of the last march to press for voting rights. This activism generated national attention for social justice and that summer, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was passed by Congress to authorize federal oversight and enforcement of constitutional rights of all American citizens.
