Akane Yashiro is a fictional pilot and a central character in the Godzilla film series. She is part of the Shinsei period of "Millennium era" films and appeared in the 2002 movie, Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla. She was played by actress Yumiko Shaku.

Biography[]

Akane Yashiro was a member of the Japan Self-Defense Forces in the late 1990s and was part of a special detachment known as the Anti-Megalosaurus Force (AMF). She was the driver of a maser tank that was sent out to combat the threat of Godzilla. During the incident, Akane fired the weapon, but missed the target. She then mis-judged the angle of her vehicle, colliding with another JSDF truck, knocking it over into a ravine where it was then crushed by Godzilla's foot. Akane never forgave herself for the lives lost that day, and few others in the JSDF forgave her either.

An AMF disciplinary review board demoted her in rank and she was saddled with an office position. For the next three and a half years, she had to suffer to scorn of her peers, in particular, from Susumu Hayama, whose brother was one of the men who died that day in 1999.

As luck would have it, Akane was chosen to pilot the transport jet for the Mecha-G Project in 2003, making her the primary remote operator of the MechaGodzilla, or Kiryu robot defender. She had to work alongside Hayama, who was also chosen for the project. When MechaGodzilla first fought up against Godzilla, it went out of control and turned its weaponry upon the transport jets. Hayama's plane was shot down, but Akane rescued him, much to his surprise.
