- Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen. It is based on characters featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The S.H.I.E.L.D. organization was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. They first appeared in Strange Tales #135 in August, 1965.
