The Age of Apocalypse is a comic book storyline that crossed over into several Marvel Comics titles in the mid 1990s, specifically, the X-Men family of comics. The setting of the storyline was an alternate future reality wherein Professor Charles Xavier is murdered, thus putting an end to his dream of peaceful co-existence between humans and mutants before it even has a chance to beging. This brings about the rise of the Omega-level mutant Apocalypse and a dystopic future where mutants rule. As with all dictatorships, there are those who seek to overthrow Apocalypse, and pockets of resistance emerge as teams of mutants band together to bring about an end to the Age of Apocalypse.
