Abydos is a fictional planet featured in the Stargate film and television franchise. It first appeared in the 1994 film Stargate and was likewise featured in the novelization of the film as well as several of the spin-off books by author Bill McCay. The planet was revisited for the Stargate SG-1 television series and featured prominently in several episodes from season one. It is one of the principal settings of the film and is the first alien world featured in the entire Stargate franchise.

Abydos is populated by human colonists, most of whom were slaves to the alien conquerors known as the Goa'uld. For many years, the people of Abydos labored as miners for the Goa'uld System Lord known as Ra.

  • The name Abydos is taken from the ancient Egyptian city of Abydos, the oldest known city of Upper Egypt. As transcribed from ancient hieroglyphs, the correct name of the city is Abdju.
  • The people of Abydos are referred to as Abydonians. Their customs and culture are similar to those of people of Ancient Egypt on Earth.
  • There are very few indiginous animal species native to Abydos. One such animal however, the Mastadge, was domesticated by the people of Nagada and used as a beast of burden. Doctor Daniel Jackson encountered one on his very first visit to Abydos. The creature pounced upon him and began licking at his face. (Stargate (1994))
  • Abydos was destroyed in the season six finale of Stargate SG-1, "Full Circle".
