  • This episode reveals that ALF can hear the high frequency sound of dog whistles. Unfortunately, the sound also messes with his sense of balance which causes him to fall down.
  • The Melmackian word for "eleven" is "papoon."

  • The central theme of this episode is taken from Cyrano de Bergerac, the French dramatist who was known for his overly large nose (like ALF) and was the subject of a popular play by Edmond Rostand.
  • The title of this episode is taken from the song "Standing in the Shadows of Love", a 1966 single by The Four Tops. Many episodes in the series are named after popular songs.
