2029 is the twenty-ninth year of the twenty-first century. This is the year that John Connor led a hard-fought battle against Skynet and its Terminator enforcers in their decades-long "War Against the Machines". At the close of the war, Connor sent his best buddy, Kyle Reese, back in time to protect his mom, Sarah Connor (with the secret agenda of also shtooping her, thus insuring John Connor's birth), while Skynet simultaneously sent a T-800 Terminator back in time to 1984 to assassinate her.
Speaking of wacky travel incidents, 2029 is also the same year that astronaut Leo Davidson took a space pod to chase after his missing chimpanzee Pericles, which tossed him into a radioactive storm that shunted him into an alternate reality. Leo's colleagues aboard the space station Oberon were also present in this timeline. An alternate reality version of this year indicated a strong presence of evolved apes as indicated by a statue of ape military leader General Thade in place of what is normally recognized as the Lincoln Memorial.
2029 was not a great year for mutants however. No new mutant births had been recorded for the past twenty-five years, and many of those who did exist were wiped out by a tragic accident in 2028. Of those who survived were Charles Xavier, James Howlett and a mutant tracker named Caliban. All three lost their lives that year, but there was the promise of hope in the form of Laura Kinney, who was the genetic clone of James Howlett. Along with several other mutant gene projects who hailed from the same program that produced Laura, they went off to beget a new generation of mutants.
