Year 1462 (MCDLXII) was a common year starting on Friday of the Julian calendar.
In Bram Stoker's Dracula, Vlad Dracul goes to war against the Turks and is victorious. The survivors send false word of Dracula's death back to his beloved Elisabeta who, heartbroken, takes her own life by jumping into the Danube. When Dracul discovers this, he renounces God and swears to use all of the powers of darkness to avenge her death, thus becoming the vampire Dracula.
In reality, this was the year that the historical Dracula, Vlad III attempted to assassinate Mehmed II in The Night Attack, forcing Mehmed to retreat from Wallachia.
